Helpful Hints

  • Larger items such as sheets and towels should be placed on inner lines and smaller articles on the outer lines.
  • Sheets should be folded in half (lengthwise) and may be placed on the Handy Line in three ways:
    1. Place folded sheet over two lines.
    2. Peg one end to one line and loop the remainder forward and up to the line in front (like a sling). Fitted sheets should be pegged in this manner.
    3. Peg the doubled sheet along one line and bring the remainder forward and peg back along the line in front as if doing a U-turn.
  • Towels will dry much quicker if placed horizontally. If using bath sheets, hang them in the same way as bed sheets.
  • Washing should be evenly balanced on both sides of the Handy Line.
  • When placing trousers on the Handy Line it is a good idea to peg the front to one line and the back to another so that the air can flow through them. Two trouser hangers put over an end bar will also work in the same way without using up additional line space.
  • The Handy Line may be stored on two hooks behind a door or on a wall.

  • Quilt covers, doonas, woollen underlays and any other large item may be “tented” over the Handy Line making sure to carefully fold ends into centre and lift off. Also, it is a good idea to place a folded hand towel, or pieces of foam or similar, on each corner under the fabric that may be placed over the top of the Handy Line. This will stop the material from taking on the shape of the corners of the Handy Line.
  • Do not use the Handy Line out in the open on windy days unless it is tethered. There is a loop under the main bar where the strap, supplied in the packaging, can be attached. At the other end, the strap can be hooked to a tent peg or sand bag. If using a tent peg in a grassed area, it will need to be on an angle otherwise it will just pull out.
  • It’s a good idea to leave pegs on each line so they are readily available especially for those with disabilities e.g. arthritis or back problems.
  • If more space is needed to hang socks or the like, pegs can be added to the horizontal bar of a coat hanger which should hold about 3 pairs.
  • The lines may be retensioned making sure not to pull them too tight.

Assembly Instructions

Unpack

Step 1 - End Rail Assembly

Step 2 - Fitting the Legs

Step 3 - Fitting the Leg Brace

Step 4 - Threading the Line

Folding / Unfolding

Carefully open the carton and remove the contents from its packaging. Each Box contains:

Step 1 - End Rail Assembly

Place the main beam upside down and loosen the 4 screws using the screw driver provided (or a battery powered screw driver). Remove one half and set aside.

Now insert the End Rail part (note that the Nylon hooks within the end Rail need to face down and towards the centre). Align the centre pin with the centre hole then replace the junction cover. Ensure the black rubber buffer is sitting neatly between the two halves. Retighten all of the 4 screws.

The two halves should fit together neatly with no gaps. Screws must be tight!

Repeat this process at the other end.

Step 2 - Fitting the Legs

Place one of the aluminium legs ether side of the main beam. Remove the nut, bolt and 2 washers from the junction.

Leaving 1 washer on the bolt, re insert the bolt through both legs. Fit the second washer then the nut.

Use the two 10 millimetre spanners provided to tighten the nut - do not 'over' tighten.

Repeat this process at the other end.

Step 3 - Fitting the Leg Brace

Remove the 4 screws from the Leg Brace part and separate the two halves. Do not try to separate the round stainless steel Leg Brace from the assembly.

Holding the inner half of the Leg Brace, place one leg into the recess and align the moulded pin with the hole in the leg (make sure the part is in the correct orientation). Now insert the second leg.

Now attach the other half containing the Leg Brace, hold the 2 halves together and reinsert the 4 screws and tighten. There should be no gaps and the screws must be tight.

Repeat this process at the other end.

The legs should now fold up and down freely. You will hear and feel a 'click' when the leg are in the 'locked' position.

Now flip the assembly over onto it's feet.

Step 4 - Threading the Line

With the Handyline upright, begin threading the line from the inside to the outside. Start by feeding the plastic coated line into the first hole from the bottom up, down into the adjacent hole, then up, then down then up, then down again into the locking groove. Walk to the opposite end and feed a loop through the first slot from the bottom up. Applying tension to line as you go. Walk from end to end repeating this process.

Finish by threading the line through the outer most hole from the bottom up and complete the threading as you did at the start.

Repeat this process on the other side.

You may wish to retension the lines at this point. You can quickly retension the lines when ever you like by unthreading and rethreading. Trim the left over line with scissors or a knife.

Finally, do a last check to make sure all parts are fitting together neatly and ensure all the screws are tight.

Folding / Unfolding

To unlock the legs, depress the small Lever Latch and slide the legs back until they 'click' into the main bar. Lower the end you have just folded to the ground

Repeat this process at the other end (Unfolding is the reverse.) Always listen for a 'click' sound so you know the legs have locked into position.

Retensioning the lines is easy achieved whenever you feel it is required like by unthreading and rethreading. Trim the left over line with scissors or a knife.
